All sound files have to be saved in either a .wav or .mid format before they can be imported into Clicker.  MP3 files do not work (but see below for how to convert them). Music and sound effects can be found in various places on the World Wide Web as well as on commercially produced CDs. Try these websites for sound effects, clips from TV shows, theme music etc.

There are lots of others!

To import music from a commercially produced CD into iTunes

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Put in the CD.
  3. Choose ‘Preferences’ from the ‘Edit’ menu, then go to the ‘General’ tab.
  4. Select ‘Import songs’ from ‘CD Insert’ drop-down menu.
  5. Go to the ‘Importing’ tab and choose ‘WAV encoder’ from the ‘Import using’ drop-down menu.

Once you have downloaded and saved your files you can then import them into ‘Clicker’ cells using the ‘Sound and Video’ tab in the ‘Cell Properties’ dialogue box.  If the sounds are being used in Clicker cells then they have to remain on the hard disc of the computer being used.  They can be stored in iTunes.  Otherwise, build up a collection of sounds and music clips on CD (if you have a CD-RW facility) to save hard disc memory.

Converting downloaded MP3 files into .wav files

  1. Download and save the files from the Internet into iTunes.
  2. Choose ‘Preferences’ from the ‘Edit’ menu and go to the ‘Advanced’ tab.
  3. Select the encoding format that the song is to be converted to (.wav) and click on ‘OK’
  4. Then, still with the ‘Advanced’ tab open, go to ‘Convert to’ and choose the song, folder or disc that you want converted.  All the songs in a folder will be converted in one go.
