A screen dump is the equivalent of taking a photograph of the screen of the PC and putting the resultant picture into a document. This can be used for illustrating how things look on the screen (for example, when making training documents) or can be printed out and used in communication books, in games around the theme of the programme or to illustrate pupil’s work.
Open the programme that you want to take a picture of and make sure that the screen you want is up on your monitor. If something on the screen is moving, a screen dump is still possible.
- Hold down ‘Alt’ (or Fn or Ctrl) and press the ‘Print screen’ key on the keyboard.
- Close or minimise your programme and open ‘Word’.
- Make sure you have a cursor on the page and click on ‘Paste’. Your picture should appear on the screen.
- To adjust the picture’s size, click on it once and use the markers at the bottom right corner to drag it to the size you want it to be.
- To move it in the text, use the ‘text wrap’ tools within ‘Word’ as you would for any other picture.
