CENMAC's Thursday Thirty Session: Help SEN children automate the basic skills in writing and maths Date: Thursday 4 July 2024 Time: 15.30 to 16.00 (BST)
Grafari and Calcularis by Constructor

CENMAC’s Thursday Thirty – Help SEN children automate the basic skills in writing and maths with adaptive learning programs from Constructor

Thursday 4 July 2024, 15.30 – 16.00 (BST)

Constructor for Schools, formerly Dybuster, dates back to 2007. A professor of the ETH in Zurich had a son with writing difficulties. He teamed up with his master student to develop a program that uses multisensory clues to support learners with dyslexia: Grafari (Orthograph) – for the automation of the spelling of the 8000 most common words.

In 2011 Grafari was complemented by Calcularis – for the internalisation of the basic mathematical operations up to 1000 with a special focus on children with dyscalculia. The philosophy of our programs is to “create pedagogical value through digital means, add value where pen and paper can’t”, that is using shapes, colours, and tones in addition to the written words and numbers.

Join Jan Buschmann, Advisor – Constructor for Schools, who will explain how these multi-sensory clues stimulate the brain in learners with learning difficulties and why more than 600 schools use our programs in Switzerland alone. Jan will show what pedagogical considerations have made them an easy-to-use tool for both learners and teachers over the 15 years.

Both programs are in English and Orthograph has the English Standard course for the 8000 most common words of the English language.
